Lamar Jefferson -12U Assistant Head Coach

Originally from Maryland Lamar has been a part of the Newport Beach baseball community for more than 20 years, as well as being in the personal training/sports performance industry for that time. Lamar has prepared young athletes for their Division 1 sports with both their physical and mental preparation. 

Lamar has combined his passion for sports performance and baseball skills training to help develop young players with hitting and fielding mechanics. Lamar has coached 12u to 18u baseball over the last 20 years.

"I believe that developing great mechanics and fundamentals in both baseball and sports performance training are paramount.  Teaching a 9-year-old proper mechanics will not only allow him to develop quickly but reduce the chance of injury. That foundation will carry over for the rest of his life. I cherish the opportunity to be a part of that process.




Ira Green - Program Hitting Instructor

Coach Green has a B.S. Degree in Education and a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling.  He has an extensive coaching background having been a head high school baseball coach for six years in the Chicago area.  In Southern California, he has been the hitting coach and worked with the hitters at Tustin High for six seasons.
Coach Green has coached at all levels of baseball from T-ball to Connie Mack (17 & 18 years old’s.)  He began working privately with hitters and doing group hitting lessons in 1992 and founded The Baseball Academy in Orange County.  In 1995 he opened an indoor training facility to work with serious boys and girls with the desire to improve their game.

Players of all ages from age 9 to pros. have been helped by his coaching.  He has given instruction to thousands of area players over the years, many have gone on to do great things. Over 160 of Coach Green’s students have gone on to play Division 1 Baseball and about the same number have played in the pro ranks with 8 from his academy including his son Shawn Green going on to play in MLB.  The others include Aaron Boone of Villa Park H.S. (Reds, Yankees, Astros, Nationals, Indians, Marlins) Heath Bell of Tustin H.S. (Mets, Padres) Jayson Hardtke Leland H.S. (Mets, Cubs) Freddy Freeman El Modena H.S. (Braves), and Danny Espinosa Mater Dei H.S. (Nationals, Angels.)

 



Ariel Guitron-Head Coach 12u

Ariel graduated from Downey High School in 1996 and was 1st team all San Gabriel Valley as a pitcher on both the baseball and football team as a QB. Coach Ariel played Professional Baseball for 5 years and has 19 years of teaching & coaching experience. From 2015-2019 he was the Varsity Pitching Coach at Newport Harbor High School and is currently the Pitching Coach at Long Beach Poly High. Coach Ariel lives in Long Beach with his wife Ashley, 16 year old son AJ, and his brand new baby boy Arlo. Ariel is a man of faith with a great passion for teaching and helping people grow. He connects with his players on a deeper level and encourages them to be the best that they can be mentally and physically. His motto is that more important than baseball, we want you to be good people. Integrity, hard work, and faith.

Steven Bibona-Assistant Coach 12u

Coach Bibona grew up playing in NHBA and went on to play at Newport Harbor High School. Bibona was named to the Sunset League All-Academic Team and earned the Jim Newkirk Character Award. He then went on to attend UC Irvine where he was an undergraduate assistant/student manager for their NCAA Division 1 baseball program for 4 years. In 2020 he graduated with degrees in business economics and political science. As the eldest of 4 siblings, Bibona enjoys being a role model to help coach kids into better players and better people.





Mark Cresse-11u Head Coach

Coach Cresse has a rich history of professional baseball as he played & coached for over 25 years. Mark played college ball locally both at Golden West and Cal State Long Beach before being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. He also went on to coach with the Dodgers for 25 years. He is best known in Orange County for his School of Baseball camps that have been around for over 30 years and helped develop thousands of young ballplayers. 




Kurt Heyer-Assistant Coach 11u

Went to the University of Arizona from 2010-12. Where he was the Friday night starter for all three years.  Became a 3 time All-American and won the 2012 national championship. Drafted in 2012 by the St Louis Cardinals in the 6th round. Spent 5 years in the organization making it all the way up to AAA. Recently has been playing Independent Ball for the last couple of years. Played for the Milwaukee Milkmen in the American Association this past season. Looking to make a comeback in affiliated ball. Kurt was just selected to the All-Decade Team for the Pac 12 recently as well.



Matthew Fahey-11u Head Coach


 

Matthew Fahey starts his 13th season at the collegiate level as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Fahey works with the catchers/outfielders and develops the hitters and coordinates the offense. He serves as the third base coach and directs the defensive positioning and alignment, and has tutored 12 gold glove winners.

During his five years (including one as a red shirt) as an outfielder for NCAA Div. I Cal State Fullerton, Fahey made three trips to Omaha, Neb. (2006-07 and 2009) to play in the NCAA College World Series.

Fahey spent his first three years playing under legendary head coach George Horton before playing his final two seasons beneath Dave Serrano, the current head coach at Cal State Northridge. Each member of the coaching duo has earned National Coach of the Year honors by Baseball America.

Fahey graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2009 with his bachelor's in kinesiology and earned his teaching credential from Fullerton in the spring of 2010.

Fahey earned his master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia in the spring of 2012.


Chase Harrison -11u Assistant Coach



Chase Harrison enters his fourth season as a volunteer assistant. Harrison assists Coach Joe Turgeon with the pitchers as well as working alongside Coach Matthew Fahey with recruiting.

He prepped at Orange Lutheran High School where he was a four year letterman before graduating in 2010. Harrison finished his playing career at Concordia University Irvine in 2014.
Harrison started his coaching career in 2015 as an undergraduate assistant for the Eagles.   




Joe Ronquillo - 10u Head Coach

Coach Q played collegiately at Orange Coast College and the University of Redlands.  He was Head Coach at Laguna Beach and Corona Del Mar High Schools before becoming an assistant coach at Saddleback JC and OCC for 7 years                                                                                          

When his two boys began playing baseball, he coached them through Little League, Cal Ripken, Pony Baseball, and Travel Ball. He returned to coach Freshman baseball and the feeder program for several years at Marina High School and spent two seasons with the Newport Beach Riptide.

Coach Q has taught private lessons for many years as well as conducted Coaches Clinics and Baseball Camps. He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA).



Mike Huyler- 10u Assistant Coach

Mike has over 25 years of playing experience and 20 years of coaching.  His approach for youth players centers around overall player development and the fundamental aspects of the game while keeping it fun!  Hitting, pitching, infield and outfield play, breaking down each position both mentally and physically.  He’s an instructor/coach that likes to interact with his students/players and demonstrate what is being taught…therefore, his students/players get a visual image of what they should look like.  He played at the collegiate level, as well as, professionally in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers organizations.  Many of Mike’s students have gone to play at both the college and professional levels.  Mike’s son, Nate, is a Senior at Garden Grove High School and a member of their Varsity Baseball Team.

Richard Izaguirre -8U Head Coach

Rich brings over 40 years of playing and coaching experience to the program that includes a
five-year minor-league career. Currently the Frosh Head Coach at Crean Lutheran High School
in Irvine for the past 5 years. He brings a passion for personal development as well as
developing fundamental skills within the game. A former catcher he understands the nuances
of the game as a team leader. His philosophy on the game is simple...” Have fun, play with
your heart, and love every minute you are lucky enough to play the game!” “I want to help
players grow in the game with information and coaching that will have them prepared for high
school and beyond if that is their desire.”




Steve Springer - Consultant

Steve is the former mental performance coach & major league scout for the Toronto Blue Jays.

I always felt I was a better competitor than I was a ballplayer.  I was 4'11 and 90 pounds just before high school.  After not starting in High School his Senior year, getting cut in college, Springer was drafted by the Mets after a break out sophomore season.

After years in the minor leagues, Steve eventually collected his first major league hit with the New York Mets.

Steve played over 14 years as a professional baseball player and compiled over 1,600 professional hits…two hits with the Cleveland Indians and two hits with the New York Mets at the Major League Level.

With over 35 years in professional baseball as a baseball player, agent and scout, he now travels and speaks across the country to Major Colleges, High Schools, Travel Ball Teams etc about the mental side of the game/hitting while, at the same time, working and training with major league all-stars…Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, AJ Pollock to name a few. 

He resides in Huntington Beach CA and is the author of Quality At-Bats and the founder of Quality At-Bats Academy.
